Senior Claims Specialist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Maryland.

📋 Description

• Oversee a substantial inventory of intricate claims to assess compensability and liability.

• Direct thorough claims investigations to verify coverage and ascertain liability, compensability, and damages.

• Evaluate and negotiate claim settlements and reserves within designated authority.

• Participate in arbitrations, mediations, depositions, or trials as required.

• Convey complex coverage and settlement details to insured parties, claimants, and external stakeholders.

• Authorize payments within assigned authority limits and guarantee prompt disbursement.

• Maintain precise and comprehensive claim files, including correspondence, reports, and settlement agreements.

• Assist in the performance and coaching of staff, engaging in talent selection, development, and performance management decisions.

• Execute additional duties as assigned.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Risk Management and Insurance, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent experience.

• At least 13 years of experience in property and casualty claims handling.

• Completion of or ongoing progress toward a professional designation is preferred, such as Associate in Claims (AIC).

• Outstanding analytical, negotiation, and problem-solving abilities.

• In-depth knowledge of insurance policies, coverage, and claims handling processes.

• Familiarity with industry laws and regulations.

• Advanced capability to organize and prioritize caseloads effectively.

• Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.

• Proficient in building relationships and leading negotiations.

• Capable of managing confidential information with discretion.

• Acknowledged subject matter expertise within the organization, potentially functioning at a peer level to management.
