Marine Claims Adjuster

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois, +1 more state.

📋 Description

• Analyze, investigate, assess, negotiate, and resolve claims of minimal to moderate complexity.

• Manage marine and inland marine property and liability claims.

• Primarily oversee claims with exposures up to $25,000.

• Handle claims related to Residential Builders Risk, Ocean Marine, Boat Dealers & Owned Boats, Fine Art & Valuables, Musical Instruments & Dealers, Motor Truck Cargo & Transportation, Warehouse Legal Liability, Contractors Equipment & Equipment Dealers, and Railroad Rolling Stock.

• Conduct comprehensive investigations, including telephone communications with involved parties.

• Operate within defined limits and authority on assignments of moderate technical complexity.

• Exercise discretion and independent judgment in managing claims.

• Identify claims that may be suspicious.

• Interpret commercial coverages and business contracts.

• Apply technical expertise in marine insurance products and industry practices.

• Make decisive, confident, and timely decisions.

• Foster constructive working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.

• Develop solutions to claims-related challenges and adapt to evolving situations, requirements, or priorities.

• Collaborate with teams to promote open communication.

⛳️ Requirements

• An associate degree is required; a bachelor's degree is preferred or a combination of education and experience.

• Typically possess 2–3 years of relevant experience in claims handling.

• Must have or obtain and maintain the appropriate state adjuster license(s) and continuing education credits.

• Capable of reading and interpreting business contracts.

• Demonstrates or is developing core skills in commercial loss scoping and estimating.

• Exhibits a foundational understanding of Marine and Inland Marine business classes, including the nationwide definition of Inland Marine.

• Strong organizational and time management capabilities.

• Skilled in negotiating effectively in challenging situations with internal and external parties.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• Familiarity with applicable statutes, regulations, and case law.

• Proficient in the use of MS Office, Excel, and Word.

• Experienced in utilizing claims systems such as CMX and PMS.

• May be required to maintain a sufficient home-based internet connection.
