Marine Claims Adjuster

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois, +1 more state.

📋 Description

• Manage marine inside property and liability claims that are minimal to moderately complex.

• Primarily oversee claims with exposures not exceeding $25,000.

• Handle marine and inland marine claims concerning Residential Builders Risk, Ocean Marine, Boat Dealers & Owned Boats, Fine Art & Valuables, Musical Instruments & Dealers, Motor Truck Cargo & Transportation, Warehouse Legal Liability, Contractors Equipment & Equipment Dealers, and Railroad Rolling Stock.

• Analyze, investigate, assess, negotiate, and resolve claims effectively.

• Conduct comprehensive investigations, including telephone communications with involved parties.

• Operate within designated limits and authority on assignments of moderate technical complexity.

• Exercise discretion and independent judgment while managing claims.

• Identify claims that may be potentially suspicious.

• Utilize technical knowledge of products and the insurance sector.

• Interpret commercial coverages accurately.

• Manage claims characterized by minimal to moderate complexity, severity, and exposures.

⛳️ Requirements

• An associate degree is required; a bachelor's degree is preferred, or a combination of education and experience.

• Typically possess 2-3 years of relevant claim handling experience.

• Must obtain and maintain the necessary state adjuster license(s) and continuing education credits.

• Capable of reading and interpreting business contracts.

• Demonstrates or is in the process of developing core commercial loss scoping and estimating skills.

• Shows a foundational understanding of the Marine and Inland Marine classes of business, including the nationwide definition of Inland Marine.

• Strong organizational and time management abilities.

• Skilled in negotiating effectively in challenging situations with both internal and external stakeholders.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• Understanding of relevant statutes, regulations, and case law.

• Possesses critical thinking and timely problem-solving capabilities.

• Ability to adapt to changing situations, requirements, or priorities.

• Proficient in computer applications (MS Office, Excel, Word, etc.).

• Experienced in using claims systems (i.e., CMX, PMS, etc.).

• May need to have and sustain a sufficient home-based internet connection.
