Senior Bioinformatics Scientist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

• Oversee intricate technical projects

• Foster innovation in methodologies and tools by connecting with key stakeholders

• Convert business requirements into technical specifications for strategic planning

• Cultivate cross-functional partnerships to achieve business objectives

• Provide guidance on complex bioinformatics and engineering issues

• Design and execute advanced bioinformatics solutions related to genomics and genetics

• Partner with molecular biology teams in the development of assays, experimental frameworks, and analyses

• Ensure regulatory compliance through detailed analysis and technical documentation for verification, validation, and record-keeping

• Create and refine analysis pipelines utilizing bioinformatics algorithms

• Direct the interpretation of results and set reporting standards

• Develop quality control metrics and procedures to maintain data integrity

• Enhance accuracy, cost of goods sold (COGS), and turnaround time (TAT)

• Lead verification and validation initiatives

• Collaborate with clinical and commercial stakeholders leveraging bioinformatic data

• Assess genomic data for complex variant interpretation and identify system constraints

• Design and implement sophisticated software systems

• Create maintainable, debuggable, and observable systems and APIs

• Establish development standards and offer design feedback

• Boost system reliability and performance utilizing relevant metrics

• Conduct technical design reviews

• Develop robust testing frameworks in collaboration with team leads

• Guide architectural decisions for adjacent software systems

• Set up monitoring systems to enhance debuggability and observability

• Promote the adoption of engineering best practices across teams

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's degree with 10 or more years of experience in bioinformatics, molecular biology, computational biology, or engineering, OR a Master's degree with 6 years of experience in these domains, OR a PhD with 4 or more years of experience in these areas

• At least 2 years of experience in leading technical projects

• A minimum of 2 years of experience in system architecture and design

• Proficiency with BWA, GATK, Deep variance, Dragen, Nextflow, Python, SKLearn, SciPy, PyTORCH, CI/CD, or GitHub Actions

• Familiarity with regulatory requirements in bioinformatics, including compliance and documentation

• Understanding of bioinformatics algorithms and statistical/probabilistic techniques

• Knowledge of the molecular biology relevant to one or more products

• Strong aptitude for selecting datasets free from assumptions and biases

• Proven project leadership skills for complex challenges

• Strategic mindset in selecting, assessing, and adapting intricate techniques

• Expertise in stakeholder management across scientific and engineering domains

• Excellent communication skills for persuading a diverse group of stakeholders
