Senior Backend Software Engineer – Loki

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States, +1 more country.

📋 Description

• Shape the roadmap and personal career aspirations.

• Collaborate with the team to launch new features and iterate based on outcomes.

• Lead projects from initial concept through to production operations and customer deployment.

• Contribute to open-source initiatives beyond the immediate team’s focus.

• Design, build, operate, and manage essential systems, ensuring reliability, performance, and availability.

• Participate in follow-the-sun on-call rotations and take ownership of services in operation.

• Assist team members, engage in design discussions, and work collaboratively with the team.

• Acquire knowledge of the cloud product, customer requirements, and the codebase of a large distributed system.

• Write and review pull requests and design documentation.

• Oversee automated release rollouts.

⛳️ Requirements

• Strong experience with at least one programming language; Go is used at Grafana Labs, while Python, C, C++, Rust, or similar languages are also applicable.

• Some experience in delivering projects from requirement gathering and brainstorming to product shipment independently.

• Some experience in developing software that operates in the Cloud or related systems engineering experience.

• Some experience in on-call duties and adhering to the DevOps model.

• Proven experience in writing clean, robust, performant, and maintainable software.

• Familiarity with observability systems and the use of metrics, logs, and traces for problem debugging.

• Self-motivated individual with a proactive approach and customer orientation.

• Pragmatic mindset with the ability to deconstruct complex challenges into modular solutions, deliver MVPs, gather feedback, and iterate effectively.

• Strong communication and collaboration skills in a fully remote environment.

• Kubernetes experience is highly preferred.

• Experience with queue systems, including the Kafka protocol.

• Experience utilizing Grafana and Prometheus in operational roles.

• Exposure to microservices architecture and distributed systems, or a strong desire to learn.

• Familiarity with infrastructure as code practices.
