Senior Backend Scalability Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Conduct comprehensive audits of backend systems, encompassing services, APIs, databases, queues, and data flows.

• Detect bottlenecks, critical areas, design imperfections, and scalability challenges.

• Produce detailed audit reports that articulate findings, their impact, proposed solutions, and resolutions.

• Revise code, redesign schemas, implement caching, optimize queries, and deploy changes to production.

• Reengineer backend components for enhanced scalability by applying appropriate patterns, segmenting services when beneficial, and minimizing unnecessary complexity.

• Enhance databases and data flows through improved queries, indexing, schema modifications, and reduced latency.

• Collaborate closely with engineers via pairing, code reviews, and effective handoffs.

⛳️ Requirements

• Minimum of eight years of practical backend engineering experience.

• Advanced proficiency in Node.js or similar languages; relevant infrastructure is based on JavaScript/TypeScript.

• Proficient in Aurora or similar relational database systems.

• Experience in designing and scaling REST or GraphQL APIs.

• Knowledge of caching, queues, background jobs, eventual consistency, and distributed backend failure modes.

• Background in performance profiling and load testing within realistic environments.

• Capable of writing production-level code and taking ownership of it.

• Strong written communication skills for generating actionable audit reports.

• Fully remote position available globally; must have reliable internet and a quiet workspace.

• Daily use of AI tools in work processes and comfort with AI coding resources.

• Bonus: Experience in leading system migrations, significant refactors, or database sharding without disrupting production.
