Senior Backend Engineer, Ruby on Rails

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Poland.

📋 Description

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend applications utilizing Ruby on Rails.

• Work closely with Product Managers and engineering stakeholders to assess requirements and convert product specifications into technical solutions.

• Create technical integration plans, development breakdowns, and precise effort estimates.

• Develop new features while continuously enhancing existing application functionalities.

• Produce clean, efficient, maintainable, and thoroughly tested production code.

• Engage in pull requests, peer code reviews, and software testing.

• Diagnose application issues and enhance performance, reliability, and scalability.

• Participate in architectural discussions, technical decision-making, and product roadmap planning.

• Take ownership of complex backend features throughout the entire development lifecycle, from requirements gathering to production deployment.

• Identify and address technical bottlenecks as user demand escalates.

• Investigate new technologies, frameworks, and development methodologies.

• Collaborate with distributed engineering, infrastructure, SRE, and product teams.

• Contribute to ongoing improvements in development processes, code quality, and system architecture.

⛳️ Requirements

• Minimum of 5 years of commercial experience as a Backend or Full-Stack Software Engineer.

• Strong, recent hands-on experience in developing and maintaining production applications with Ruby on Rails.

• Proven capability to independently design, develop, and implement complex backend features.

• Experience with applications that serve thousands or more monthly active users.

• Solid understanding of scalable backend architecture, application performance, and system reliability.

• Demonstrated experience in delivering features across the full software development lifecycle, including requirements analysis, implementation, testing, and production deployment.

• Experience in technology startups, scale-ups, or similarly fast-paced, agile engineering environments.

• Ability to adapt to changing priorities, manage deadlines, and uphold high engineering standards.

• Strong understanding of software engineering principles, clean code practices, and automated testing.

• Experience participating in code reviews and working collaboratively with cross-functional development teams.

• Strong analytical thinking, troubleshooting abilities, and a proactive approach to technical problem-solving.

• Capacity to work independently, take ownership of technical deliverables, and contribute to engineering decisions.

• Excellent written and spoken English communication skills.

• Experience effectively collaborating with international, fully remote teams.

• Must reside in Europe and be available to work with CET ±3 hours overlap.
