Senior Backend Engineer – remote

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Austria.

📋 Description

• Design, develop, and sustain essential APIs and backend services that power the mobile application and marketplace.

• Take ownership of the operations and monitoring of production systems.

• Evaluate backend designs and API modifications across teams to ensure alignment with mobile app requirements and limitations.

• Proactively identify and address mobile-related backend challenges at an early stage.

• Integrate third-party systems and APIs into the platform effectively.

• Lead the design and execution of new features and services.

• Determine best practices and establish or recommend standards for the engineering team.

• Document and illustrate solutions through various means, including documentation, flowcharts, layouts, diagrams, charts, code comments, and clear code.

• Mentor junior team members and facilitate the onboarding of new hires.

• Collaborate with engineers, product managers, designers, and business stakeholders.

• Present insights, accomplishments, and results during relevant meetings.

• Occasionally implement backend modifications to the frontend.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 7 years of experience in designing and constructing scalable backend services within a modern production setting.

• Strong expertise in Go.

• In-depth knowledge of distributed systems and service-oriented architecture.

• Comfortable working with JavaScript/TypeScript, or capable of quickly learning Node.js.

• Experience in a team that develops and maintains a native mobile application.

• Understanding of how mobile applications utilize backend services, including API design for mobile, version control and backward compatibility, release cycles, latency, and offline functionality.

• Proficient in SQL and relational database design.

• General awareness of frontend development and the capability to perform basic tasks in frontend applications.

• Strong sense of ownership, initiative, and the ability to learn and navigate complex systems swiftly.

• Clear, direct, and respectful communication skills.

• Excellent proficiency in English.

• Located in a European time zone.

• A degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent professional experience is preferred.

• A curious mindset and willingness to experiment with new development methodologies, frameworks, AI tools, or practices.

• Ability to operate beyond one's own team, review designs, and guide fellow engineers is an added advantage.
