Senior Backend Engineer – Platform Team

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Bulgaria.

📋 Description

• Take charge of the complete software development lifecycle—from initial ideation and architecture to implementation, testing, deployment, and continuous production support.

• Engage in architecture discussions and play a role in shaping long-term technical strategies and the evolution of the platform.

• Contribute to the transition of Balance towards a more agentic software development lifecycle.

• Assist in supporting Balance’s rapid business expansion.

• Work closely with Product Managers, Designers, Data teams, fellow engineers, and other stakeholders.

• Provide mentorship and support to fellow engineers through technical guidance, knowledge sharing, and collaborative problem-solving.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 7 years of experience in developing production-grade backend applications.

• Proficient in designing and implementing RESTful APIs and service-oriented architectures.

• Extensive practical experience in building distributed systems.

• Hands-on experience with large-scale production databases, such as PostgreSQL and/or MongoDB.

• Strong expertise in data modeling, indexing, query optimization, and tuning database performance.

• Experience utilizing AWS cloud services.

• Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, and/or serverless architectures.

• Experience in constructing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines.

• Solid grasp of software architecture, clean code principles, and design patterns.

• Background in Agile development environments.

• Frontend experience with React or similar frameworks is a plus.

• A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field is advantageous.

• A keen curiosity and active experimentation with how AI impacts the Software Development Lifecycle.
