Senior Backend Engineer – Payments Team, Python

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.

📋 Description

• Design, develop, and maintain backend services utilizing Python 3.11 with Django / DRF.

• Contribute to the architecture and long-term technical evolution of Payments systems.

• Build and enhance RESTful APIs and integrations.

• Collaborate with intricate backend and legacy systems to identify root causes of technical issues.

• Continuously enhance system performance, reliability, and scalability.

• Investigate and resolve production issues as well as recurring problems.

• Work with MySQL and Redis technologies.

• Engage in architectural discussions and contribute to technical decisions.

• Identify and mitigate technical debt.

• Enhance development processes, code quality, and engineering practices.

• Collaborate with Product, Compliance, Operations, and Business teams.

• Contribute to the evolution of architecture and internal engineering tools.

⛳️ Requirements

• 4+ years of experience in backend development.

• Strong proficiency in Python and in-depth knowledge of Django or similar frameworks.

• Solid understanding of relational databases, caching mechanisms, and high-performance backend systems.

• Experience with REST APIs, service design, and distributed systems.

• Experience dealing with complex or legacy systems.

• Capability to independently investigate complex technical issues and identify root causes.

• Experience with production systems and enhancing their stability.

• Strong sense of ownership and the ability to make sound technical decisions.

• Familiarity with Git, CI/CD practices, and modern engineering workflows.

• Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities.

• Proficient in English (B2+) and fluent in Russian.

• Nice to have: Experience in fintech, payments, or another regulated sector.

• Nice to have: Familiarity with AWS and Docker.

• Nice to have: Experience with RabbitMQ, Kafka, or other message brokers.

• Nice to have: Experience with payment providers or financial integrations.

• Nice to have: Contributions to open source projects or personal side projects.
