Senior Backend Engineer, Payments

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Design, construct, and sustain scalable backend services and APIs utilizing Golang microservices.

• Lead technical architecture initiatives while forecasting scaling and maintenance requirements.

• Collaborate with product, design, and frontend teams to implement high-impact features.

• Engage in system design evaluations and contribute to the engineering strategy.

• Assume responsibility for code quality, reliability, and observability throughout the development lifecycle.

• Plan and execute projects from initial concept through to delivery.

• Provide mentorship to peers and junior engineers.

• Participate in an on-call rotation and escalation process, offering support for critical incidents.

• Establish standards for operational excellence, including SLAs/SLOs, monitoring, alerting, and incident response protocols.

• Work on Weave’s payments platform, which aids healthcare practices with scheduling, payments, communication, and reviews.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 5 years of backend engineering experience with modern programming languages such as Golang, Java, Python, Ruby, or C#.

• Preference for Golang or a willingness to learn it.

• Proven experience in designing and building RESTful APIs and backend services.

• Strong knowledge of distributed systems and inter-service communication, including protobufs/gRPC, REST, Kafka, and Redis.

• Experience with relational databases and proficiency in SQL.

• Willingness to join an on-call rotation and take ownership of production systems.

• Familiarity with deploying and maintaining services in cloud environments, particularly Google Cloud Platform (GCP).

• Proficient in Docker/Kubernetes, observability tools, metrics, alerts, tracing, and service reliability.

• Experience with protobufs/gRPC or Temporal.

• Background in transitioning monoliths to microservices.

• Successful completion of a background check.

• Current U.S. work authorization status is requested in the application.
