Senior Backend Engineer, Kubernetes

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Egypt, +4 more countries.

📋 Description

• Design, develop, and sustain scalable backend services and APIs.

• Construct backend systems employing a microservices architecture.

• Enhance backend infrastructure for a high-volume, large-scale AI data platform.

• Implement distributed systems principles, including consistency, partitioning, replication, consensus, and failure management.

• Create fault-tolerant, highly available, and scalable distributed systems.

• Manage and operate production workloads on Kubernetes.

• Oversee deployments, services, ingress, autoscaling, and Helm within managed Kubernetes environments such as EKS.

• Provide support for containerized production settings using Docker.

• Optimize application performance and enhance backend reliability, scalability, and availability.

• Design and implement CI/CD pipelines, and facilitate GitOps-based, Kubernetes-native deployment workflows.

• Elevate observability, monitoring, alerting, and visibility into the health and performance of production systems.

• Collaborate with engineering leadership on architectural strategies.

• Share technical expertise with junior colleagues and delegate tasks effectively.

• Integrate AI tools into daily engineering practices while adhering to established governance protocols and approved API/MCP access procedures.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 10 years of professional software engineering experience, primarily focused on backend development.

• At least 3 years of practical Kubernetes experience managing production workloads.

• Extensive hands-on experience in designing and working with distributed systems.

• Familiarity with managed Kubernetes environments like EKS, GKE, or AKS.

• Proven experience in designing and developing microservices architectures.

• Background in relational and/or NoSQL databases.

• Excellent understanding of computer science fundamentals and a systems-oriented mindset.

• Strong comprehension of distributed systems concepts, including consistency models, partitioning, replication, consensus, the CAP theorem, and failure management.

• Proficient in at least one modern backend programming language; Go or Python is highly preferred, with C++ or Rust also considered.

• Solid hands-on capabilities in Kubernetes across deployments, services, ingress, autoscaling, Helm, and production workload management.

• Experience with Docker and containerized applications.

• Strong knowledge of microservices architecture and inter-service communication patterns.

• Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code; Terraform is preferred.

• Capability to effectively utilize AI tools while critically evaluating output and adhering to governance requirements.
