Senior Backend Engineer, Java

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Kenya.

📋 Description

• Work alongside Product, Design, and QA teams to ideate, design, and implement impactful features.

• Design and develop scalable, high-performance backend services utilizing Java and Spring Boot.

• Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code with a focus on reliability and testability.

• Integrate third-party services and APIs while ensuring robust error handling and graceful degradation.

• Improve system performance and enhance developer experience through automation and refactoring efforts.

• Troubleshoot and resolve intricate issues throughout the technology stack.

• Recognize opportunities for technical enhancements.

• Participate in code reviews and architecture discussions.

• Advocate for engineering best practices within the team.

• Document technical decisions, systems, and processes comprehensively.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.

• Over 5 years of practical professional experience in software engineering, particularly in backend development.

• In-depth knowledge of Java and Spring Boot.

• Strong understanding of contemporary backend architecture and engineering best practices.

• Experience in designing, building, and scaling web services, RESTful APIs, and distributed systems.

• Familiarity with Agile development methodologies and CI/CD pipelines.

• Strong skills in relational databases and ORM frameworks such as Hibernate.

• Familiarity with frontend technologies like AngularJS or React is advantageous.

• Excellent debugging and troubleshooting skills.

• Strong communication abilities and a collaborative, team-oriented mindset.
