Senior Backend Engineer, Home Surfaces

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New York, +1 more state.

📋 Description

• Design, construct, and enhance backend systems that facilitate personalization and recommendations at scale, similar to Spotify's standards.

• Create reliable, scalable, and high-performance services for managing substantial recommendation workloads.

• Develop and optimize infrastructure and pipelines to source, rank, and provide personalized podcast recommendations.

• Collaborate with Product Managers, Engineers, Data Scientists, and Designers to craft recommendation experiences and establish experimentation strategies.

• Take ownership of backend systems through the entire lifecycle, including technical design, implementation, deployment, monitoring, and ongoing enhancement.

• Utilize experimentation and data analytics to evaluate system modifications and guide future developments.

• Tackle ambiguous technical challenges and contribute to the overarching architecture of personalization systems.

• Disseminate knowledge and engineering practices among team members.

• Proven experience in building production systems using Java.

• Experience in designing distributed services that handle high volumes.

• Competence in deploying, managing, and evolving services in a production environment.

• Ability to work directly with stakeholders to gather and comprehend requirements.

• Experience in designing APIs and systems that are broadly adoptable.

• Strong grasp of system design principles, data structures, and algorithms.

• Interest in technologies related to large-scale data processing.

• Comfort in fast-paced environments where teams experiment, learn, and iterate rapidly.

• Proficiency in using data to influence technical and product-related decisions.

• Familiarity with technologies such as gRPC, GCP, BigQuery, Bigtable, or comparable tools and platforms.

• Ability to collaborate within the Eastern Standard time zone.
