Senior Backend Engineer – Golang, Distributed Systems

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in India.

📋 Description

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services and APIs utilizing Go microservices.

• Lead technical architecture initiatives and foresee scaling and maintenance requirements.

• Work collaboratively with product, design, and frontend teams to deliver impactful features.

• Engage in system design reviews and implement resilient solutions.

• Contribute to Weave’s overarching engineering strategy.

• Ensure code quality, reliability, and observability throughout the development lifecycle to production.

• Plan and manage projects from inception to completion.

• Mentor colleagues and junior engineers.

• Report directly to the Manager of Engineering.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 5 years of backend engineering experience with modern programming languages such as Go, Java, Python, Ruby, or C#; preference for Go or an eagerness to learn it.

• Proven experience in designing and constructing RESTful APIs and backend services.

• Strong grasp of distributed systems and inter-service communication, including protobufs/gRPC, REST, or NSQ.

• Proficient with relational databases and SQL.

• Willingness to participate in an on-call rotation and take accountability for production systems.

• Experience in deploying and maintaining services within cloud environments, particularly Google Cloud Platform (GCP).

• Familiarity with Docker/Kubernetes, observability tools, metrics, alerts, tracing, and service reliability.

• Background in protobufs/gRPC or Temporal, along with experience in breaking monoliths into microservices.

• Background check required.

• Ability to collaborate across functions and articulate complex systems to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
