Senior Backend Engineer, Golang

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Colombia.

📋 Description

• Develop the backend infrastructure for an innovative real-time transportation solution

• Design and implement high-quality backend services using Go

• Create REST APIs for managing vehicle, route, location, and operational data

• Establish secure webhook endpoints to receive data from external transportation platforms

• Validate, normalize, and store incoming events with proper authentication, authorization, and input validation

• Ensure webhook processing is idempotent and resilient against duplicate, delayed, or out-of-order events

• Manage retries, failures, rate limits, and incorrectly formatted third-party payloads

• Enable real-time or near-real-time updates for vehicles

• Design PostgreSQL schemas for vehicles, locations, routes, events, and associated operational data

• Develop efficient queries for both current and historical vehicle locations

• Model geospatial data using PostgreSQL and PostGIS when applicable

• Assess the need for queues or asynchronous processing

• Deploy and manage the backend on AWS utilizing suitable services

• Set up logging, metrics, health checks, and basic alerting mechanisms

• Implement secure management of credentials and application secrets

• Create repeatable deployment processes using existing CI/CD and infrastructure tools

• Investigate and troubleshoot integration or production-related issues

• Collaborate with the product manager to clarify requirements and prioritize project scope

• Identify technical risks, uncertainties, and external integration dependencies

• Deliver incrementally to gather feedback from product and engineering teams

• Partner with frontend engineers on API contracts and real-time update functionalities

• Write automated unit and integration tests

• Document architecture, APIs, webhook functionalities, deployment and operational procedures, limitations, and future steps

• Provide instructions for local development and testing

• Conduct a technical handoff with the internal engineering team

⛳️ Requirements

• Extensive professional experience in developing production backend services using Go

• Proven experience in designing and delivering REST APIs and third-party webhook integrations

• Strong skills in PostgreSQL and relational data modeling

• Experience in deploying and managing applications on AWS

• Knowledge of concurrent, asynchronous, and event-driven processing

• Experience with implementing idempotency, retries, and failure management

• Strong skills in automated testing and debugging

• Familiarity with CI/CD and contemporary software delivery practices

• Ability to work autonomously, take ownership, and deliver results effectively

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

• Experience collaborating with product and frontend teams

• Background in real-time location, fleet, transportation, or telemetry systems (preferred)

• Knowledge of geospatial data and PostGIS (preferred)

• Experience with WebSockets or Server-Sent Events (preferred)

• Familiarity with ECS/Fargate, RDS, SQS, Lambda, API Gateway, and CloudWatch (preferred)

• Experience designing systems capable of processing high-frequency webhook events (preferred)

• Knowledge of Terraform or Terragrunt (preferred)

• Familiarity with distributed tracing and production observability (preferred)

• Experience taking an early-stage product from architecture to its initial production launch (preferred)
