Senior Backend Engineer, Go

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Australia, +1 more country.

📋 Description

• Design and scale Go microservices that manage the complete lifecycle of AI generation.

• Optimize ConnectRPC services and asynchronous Kafka and SQS pipelines for long-running, resource-intensive inference.

• Develop backend logic for multimodal orchestration involving images, video, audio, 3D, and vector data.

• Utilize AWS to handle large data throughput and integrate with high-performance storage and compute clusters.

• Collaborate with external partners and the Product team to connect model outputs with the user experience in production.

• Document architectural decisions related to concurrency, queuing, backpressure, and failure management.

• Enhance reliability and reduce latency throughout the generation path while maintaining observability.

• Take ownership of code reviews, testing strategies, and on-call readiness.

• Integrate cutting-edge models into production workflows.

• Contribute to the technical direction of the broader backend platform.

• Keep abreast of advancements in distributed systems, AI infrastructure, and model-serving technologies.

⛳️ Requirements

• Extensive experience in building and scaling backend services using Go in high-traffic, high-volume SaaS environments.

• Demonstrated ability to design distributed microservice architectures.

• Experience with asynchronous processing utilizing Kafka and SQS.

• Familiarity with low-latency service communication employing gRPC, ConnectRPC, or GraphQL.

• Experience managing long-running or resource-intensive workloads through queuing, backpressure, and retry strategies.

• In-depth knowledge of AWS, including EKS, S3, and Lambda.

• Strong relational database skills, particularly in Postgres, covering schema design, query performance, and scalability.

• Solid production discipline encompassing observability, performance profiling, live system debugging, code reviews, and automated testing.

• Comfort in owning and documenting architectural decisions.

• Proficient in written and spoken English.

• Strong commitment to system reliability and quality.

• Pragmatic and self-directed work approach.

• Excellent written communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively in a distributed team with limited real-time overlap.

• Must currently reside in Australia or New Zealand.
