Senior Backend Engineer – Databases, Analytics

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom, +4 more countries.

📋 Description

• Design, implement, test, and manage database components that encompass ingestion, query planning, distributed query execution, data formats, and storage formats.

• Contribute to the definition and development of a multi-tenant database service featuring tenant isolation, usage tracking, quotas, audit logs, background jobs, and dependable service boundaries.

• Create APIs and database interfaces for AI agents, MCP tools, CLIs, and internal applications to facilitate quick data retrieval.

• Balance swift experimentation with long-term reliability as the project transitions from prototype to production.

• Equip database services with metrics, logs, traces, alerts, and dashboards.

• Utilize observability tools to gain insights into system behavior and enhance reliability.

• Influence architecture, service boundaries, storage selections, API contracts, deployment patterns, and engineering methodologies.

• Assume responsibility for scalable and maintainable database solutions that align with actual user workflows.

• Collaborate with product, infrastructure, and engineering teams.

⛳️ Requirements

• Extensive experience in developing production-grade, user-facing software systems.

• Familiarity with AI technologies and frameworks.

• Experience with distributed systems, catalogs and table formats, and query engines.

• Proficiency in a programming language such as Golang, C++, or Rust.

• Proven success in delivering software utilized in production environments.

• Exposure to cloud-native platforms like AWS, GCP, or Azure.

• Experience with observability tools for understanding and troubleshooting system behavior.

• Capability to solve complex engineering challenges and make design decisions with minimal oversight.

• Ability to navigate ambiguity and define scope in situations where requirements are not clearly defined.
