Senior Backend Engineer – Databases, Analytics

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Spain, +4 more countries.

📋 Description

• Design, develop, test, and manage database components encompassing ingestion, query planning, distributed query execution, data formats, and storage formats.

• Contribute to defining and constructing a scalable, multi-tenant database SaaS architecture.

• Implement tenant isolation, usage tracking, quotas, audit logs, background jobs, and dependable service boundaries.

• Create APIs and database interfaces for AI agents, MCP tools, CLIs, and internal applications.

• Balance quick experimentation with long-term reliability as the project transitions from prototype to production.

• Instrument database services with metrics, logs, traces, alerts, and dashboards for enhanced monitoring.

• Utilize observability tools to analyze system behavior and enhance reliability.

• Influence architecture, service boundaries, storage decisions, API contracts, deployment patterns, and engineering practices.

• Collaborate with product, infrastructure, and engineering teams effectively.

• Take ownership of database solutions to guarantee scalability, maintainability, and alignment with user workflows.

⛳️ Requirements

• Strong experience in building production-grade, user-facing software systems.

• Capability to address complex engineering challenges and make design decisions with limited supervision.

• Familiarity with AI technologies and frameworks.

• Experience with distributed systems, catalogs and table formats, and query engines.

• Proficiency in a programming language such as Golang, C++, or Rust.

• Demonstrated history of delivering software into production and engaging active users.

• Exposure to cloud-native environments like AWS, GCP, or Azure.

• Experience using observability tools to analyze and troubleshoot system behavior.

• Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across teams.

• Ability to work with ambiguity, take ownership, and define project scope.

• Experience in building distributed query engines, data warehouses or data lakes, or data engineering tools is a plus.
