Senior Backend Engineer – Databases, Analytics

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Germany, +4 more countries.

📋 Description

• Design, implement, test, and manage database components such as ingestion, query planning, distributed query execution, data formats, and storage formats.

• Define and construct the architecture for a multi-tenant database service, ensuring tenant isolation, usage tracking, quotas, audit logs, background jobs, and dependable service boundaries.

• Develop APIs and database interfaces for AI agents, MCP tools, CLIs, and internal applications to facilitate swift data retrieval.

• Collaborate with product and infrastructure teams to find a balance between experimentation and long-term reliability.

• Instrument database services with metrics, logs, traces, alerts, and dashboards for effective monitoring.

• Utilize observability tools to gain insights into system behavior and enhance reliability.

• Influence architecture, service boundaries, storage selections, API agreements, deployment patterns, and engineering methodologies.

• Assume responsibility for scalable and maintainable database solutions that align with user workflows.

⛳️ Requirements

• Strong experience in developing production-grade, user-facing software systems.

• Knowledge of AI technologies and frameworks.

• Experience with distributed systems, catalogs and table formats, and query engines.

• Proficiency in a programming language such as Golang, C++, or Rust.

• Demonstrated success in delivering production software that is actively utilized by users.

• Familiarity with cloud-native environments like AWS, GCP, or Azure.

• Experience with observability tools for understanding and troubleshooting system behavior.

• Bonus points for experience in building distributed query engines, data warehouses/data lakes, or data engineering tools.

• Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively across teams.

• Capability to work independently, make design decisions, manage ambiguity, and iterate pragmatically.
