Senior Backend Engineer, Data

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Brazil.

📋 Description

• Maintain and enhance numerous scrapers that consistently gather court data into the system.

• Ingest millions of documents and securely integrate them into the production database.

• Assist in the development and advancement of the portal that receives digitization efforts from the United States Library of Congress.

• Transform scanned materials into structured text and documents, incorporating them into the archive.

• Engage in machine learning processes that identify and eliminate copyrighted content.

• Efficiently design batch operations across five to ten million records without disrupting database performance.

• Diagnose slow queries and evaluate migrations.

• Offer database expertise and support to the team.

⛳️ Requirements

• Extensive and professional experience in Python.

• Experience with Django; this framework is essential and the most critical skill for the position.

• Strong foundation in database management, particularly with PostgreSQL.

• Ability to analyze execution plans, troubleshoot slow queries, understand indexes, and manage migrations.

• Hands-on experience in building, maintaining, and debugging web scrapers in a production environment.

• Familiarity with Celery, Redis, and Kubernetes is advantageous.

• Experience with machine learning as it relates to document processing, including OCR, classification, or extraction, is a plus.

• Background with legal data, civic tech, govtech, or open data is a plus.

• Knowledge of Elasticsearch or similar search infrastructure is desirable.

• A genuine interest in law, access to justice, or social justice initiatives is beneficial.
