Senior Backend Engineer – Core Engine, Decision Intelligence

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Germany.

📋 Description

• Create and execute backend components for modeling dependencies, assessing scenarios, and facilitating reasoning and planning workflows.

• Develop clear APIs, data structures, and interfaces to foster interaction between engine components and support future expansions.

• Transform prototypes and algorithmic concepts into maintainable and scalable software solutions.

• Make informed choices regarding building in-house solutions or integrating existing tools.

• Guarantee component quality through automated testing, benchmarking, debugging, and profiling processes.

• Design diagnostic tools and structures to trace outcomes back to inputs, model versions, and underlying assumptions.

• Collaborate with the product team to convert customer use cases into technical acceptance criteria and reusable core enhancements.

• Participate in code reviews, documentation efforts, and build and deployment workflows.

• Work closely with the CTO and the engineering team.

⛳️ Requirements

• A completed degree in computer science, mathematics, software engineering, physics, or a related technical field.

• Proficient programming skills in at least one backend language, such as Python, Java, C++, Go, or Rust.

• Experience with existing codebases.

• Strong understanding of algorithms, data structures, software design, and automated testing.

• Familiarity with API design, as well as data storage and processing systems, while considering performance and reliability requirements.

• Capability to independently dissect complex and ambiguous problems, assess alternatives, and deliver dependable software increments.

• Excellent proficiency in both written and spoken German and English.

• Enjoyment of working in fast-paced, iterative development cycles as part of a collaborative team.

• Experience with graph-based systems, knowledge representation, planning, scheduling, optimization, rule engines, constraint solvers, ML/LLM components, or transitioning research prototypes to production is a plus (not mandatory).
