Senior Backend Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States, +4 more locations.

📋 Description

• Design, develop, and maintain backend services and APIs based on product specifications and established architectural guidelines.

• Assume responsibility for intricate backend features and services from the technical design phase through implementation and delivery.

• Enhance and support existing backend services by troubleshooting and resolving complex production challenges.

• Implement solutions that incorporate distributed systems, messaging and event streaming platforms, caches, and NoSQL databases.

• Write and sustain thorough unit and integration tests while enhancing test coverage and code quality.

• Engage in technical design and code reviews, offering constructive technical feedback.

• Recognize opportunities to boost maintainability, reliability, and engineering practices.

• Collaborate cross-functionally with Product teams, engineers, and technical leads.

• Utilize AI-assisted development tools effectively and responsibly.

• Support Wordly's real-time translation services across more than 50 languages.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 5 years of practical experience in building and maintaining backend services and APIs based on product requirements.

• Proficient hands-on experience with Java or Kotlin; familiarity with both is advantageous.

• Experience with backend frameworks like Micronaut, Spring Boot, or similar technologies.

• Extensive experience in distributed systems and microservice architectures.

• Familiarity with messaging and event streaming systems, NoSQL databases, distributed caches, and CI/CD pipelines.

• Strong ability to write and maintain unit and integration tests.

• Experience in debugging and resolving complex challenges in backend services.

• Experience with AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Windsurf, Claude Code, or similar tools.

• Well-versed in modern software development workflows, including version control and code review processes.

• Comfortable working within a fully remote team environment.

• Self-driven and capable of independently delivering complex features from requirements through to implementation.

• A B.S. degree in Computer Science or an equivalent from an accredited institution is preferred.
