Senior Backend Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Design, develop, test, and sustain secure, scalable, and reliable backend systems.

• Offer technical guidance across various applications and services.

• Facilitate architecture and design discussions, documenting significant technical decisions.

• Convert business and product requirements into actionable technical plans.

• Decompose initiatives, coordinate technical tasks, and manage dependencies and obstacles.

• Collaborate with Product, Operations, and other engineering teams to ensure timely delivery.

• Create and maintain APIs, database schemas, integrations, and data contracts.

• Enhance system performance, security, observability, and maintainability.

• Review code and technical designs, ensuring adherence to engineering standards.

• Troubleshoot complex production issues and lead the technical response during incidents.

• Develop and maintain automated tests, technical documentation, and CI/CD workflows.

• Provide technical mentorship and support to fellow engineers.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent hands-on experience.

• Over 6 years of professional experience in backend software engineering.

• Proven experience providing technical direction while remaining actively engaged.

• Demonstrated ability to lead complex projects across multiple systems or services.

• Strong proficiency in Python, Go, or comparable backend programming languages.

• Experience in designing RESTful APIs using frameworks like FastAPI or Gin.

• Familiarity with relational databases, preferably PostgreSQL, including schema design and query optimization.

• Solid understanding of HTTP, REST, JSON, XML, and related web technologies.

• Experience in supporting production systems and addressing incidents.

• Knowledge of automated testing, Continuous Integration, Git, and contemporary development workflows.

• Excellent communication, problem-solving, and teamwork abilities.

• Experience in a remote, distributed work environment.

• Nice to have: Familiarity with RabbitMQ or other messaging brokers.

• Nice to have: Knowledge of AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.

• Nice to have: Experience with Docker, Docker Swarm, Nomad, or Kubernetes.

• Nice to have: Understanding of OAuth 2.0, JWT, OpenAPI, and API security practices.

• Nice to have: Familiarity with networking, Linux, infrastructure operations, or internet protocols like DNS, EPP, and RDAP.
