Senior Backend Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Create, develop, test, and uphold secure, scalable, and dependable backend systems.

• Offer technical leadership across various applications and services.

• Facilitate architecture and design discussions, documenting key technical decisions.

• Convert business and product requirements into actionable technical strategies.

• Decompose initiatives, manage technical workflows, and handle dependencies and blockers.

• Collaborate with Product, Operations, and other engineering teams to synchronize delivery.

• Design and oversee APIs, database schemas, integrations, and data contracts.

• Enhance system performance, security, observability, and maintainability.

• Review code and technical designs, ensuring adherence to engineering standards.

• Troubleshoot complex production issues and spearhead the technical response to incidents.

• Write and maintain automated tests, technical documentation, and CI/CD processes.

• Provide technical mentorship and guidance to fellow engineers.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

• Over 6 years of professional experience in backend software engineering.

• Proven experience in offering technical direction while remaining hands-on.

• History of leading complex initiatives across multiple systems or services.

• Proficient in Python, Go, or similar backend programming languages.

• Experienced in designing RESTful APIs with frameworks such as FastAPI or Gin.

• Familiarity with relational databases, preferably PostgreSQL, including schema design and query optimization.

• Solid understanding of HTTP, REST, JSON, XML, and associated web technologies.

• Experience in supporting production systems and managing incident responses.

• Knowledge of automated testing, Continuous Integration, Git, and contemporary development workflows.

• Strong communication, problem-solving, and teamwork abilities.

• Experience working within a remote, distributed team environment.
