Senior Backend Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Kenya.

📋 Description

• Craft clean, efficient, and thoroughly tested code.

• Create features, resolve bugs, conduct tests, and develop infrastructure code.

• Collaborate with product and engineering teams to grasp the purpose of features and implement enhancements.

• Define, convey, and execute project plans.

• Decompose larger features into smaller, manageable tasks.

• Minimize technical debt and communicate necessary larger refactoring efforts.

• Assist colleagues through collaborative coding, code reviews, and mentoring.

• Prepare pull requests and facilitate the deployment of work.

• Engage in wider engineering initiatives.

• Contribute to the Platform's roadmap and prioritization efforts.

• Collaborate with local product teams to comprehend product requests and clarify requirements.

• Act as a bridge between country teams and informal-sector retailers, enhancing the technical knowledge of internal teams.

• Report directly to Boost’s Chief Technology Officer.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 5 years of experience in a relevant field.

• Profound knowledge of Python and the ability to produce clear, Pythonic code.

• Strong expertise in AI along with an AI-first approach.

• Familiarity with relational databases and SQL; experience with PostgreSQL is preferred.

• Background in cloud infrastructure; AWS experience is required.

• Relevant experience in a similar position, ideally within a rapidly growing startup.

• Educational background in engineering, mathematics, or science.

• Capability to work remotely.

• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

• Experience or a willingness to assist peers through pair programming, reviewing, and mentoring.
