Senior Backend Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in India.

📋 Description

• Design, develop, and maintain backend services, APIs, and data integration layers.

• Create and defend engineering design documents (EDDs).

• Design and enhance database schemas and queries.

• Achieve project objectives while ensuring quality and addressing technical debt.

• Act as the primary expert for technologies in the field and assess industry advancements.

• Maintain high standards during code and design reviews.

• Write clean, maintainable code in adherence to coding standards.

• Contribute to the testing infrastructure and improve backend module coverage.

• Validate AI-assisted modifications against the quality of hand-written code.

• Establish alerting mechanisms, SLIs, and SLOs while enhancing backend monitoring.

• Address uncovered incidents, refine runbooks, lead technical incident responses, and document RCAs.

• Troubleshoot and resolve issues in both development and production environments.

• Oversee the delivery of the domain roadmap and engage in quarterly and sprint planning.

• Identify potential blockers and escalate them with impact assessments and suggested solutions.

• Collaborate with Product and business stakeholders to clarify requirements and define the criteria for feature success.

• Deliver domain-specific solutions and manage service design and implementation from start to finish.

• Maintain accurate task tickets and ensure comprehensive documentation.

• Work across various time zones utilizing asynchronous communication.

• Mentor junior and mid-level engineers.

• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to Backend Engineers involved in building or extending complex modules.

⛳️ Requirements

• Proficiency in English, including strong written communication skills.

• Practical experience in designing, building, and operating applications using Java, Kotlin, and/or Scala.

• Familiarity with a web framework such as Spring.

• Proven history of leading and delivering multiple impactful projects validated in production.

• Experience with large-scale consumer applications on AWS, Google Cloud, or Azure utilizing microservices architecture.

• Expertise in your domain and awareness of adjacent domains and overall company architecture.

• Experience in designing services and dependencies with a focus on security, maintainability, operability, and scalability.

• Experience in authoring and defending engineering design documents (EDDs).

• In-depth knowledge of REST API design and development for mobile and web applications.

• Strong relational database experience with MySQL, MariaDB, PostgreSQL, Oracle, or MS SQL.

• Solid non-relational database experience with Cassandra, Redshift, DynamoDB, or HDFS.

• Experience in defining alert thresholds, SLIs, SLOs, and telemetry.

• Knowledge of graceful degradation and monitoring of new features.

• Experience in co-owning Acceptance Tests coverage decisions with SDET.

• Understanding of ISO-27001, ISO-27701, and OWASP secure coding practices.

• Ability to address vulnerabilities within established SLAs.

• Proficiency in AI, including defining acceptance criteria, creating reusable context assets, prompts, and skills, as well as validating AI-generated code.

• Expert-level proficiency in Agile development methodologies.

• Capability to prioritize and communicate effectively in a fast-paced environment.
