Senior Backend Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Mexico.

📋 Description

• Assume responsibility for key product areas

• Support workflows that are directly utilized by Peek’s clients

• Enhance overall system performance, security, and dependability

• Design and manage intricate agent orchestration systems

• Develop frameworks for collaboration between humans and agents

• Deliver product features through agent-assisted development alongside human colleagues

• Create and sustain operations management systems for Peek Pro, including integrated scheduling and booking flows, as well as enterprise custom development services

• Work together with Product, Design, Engineering, and other key stakeholders

• Engage in peer code reviews, unit testing, continuous integration, and test-driven development (TDD)

• Take part in an on-call rotation and resolve occasional production issues during on-call periods

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 5 years of professional development experience with Elixir and/or Ruby; Elixir expertise is mandatory

• Strong backend principles in Elixir, encompassing API design, data modeling, SQL, service reliability, and debugging in production

• Proven experience in creating scalable and dependable backend systems that integrate multiple services and products

• Daily utilization of AI coding tools such as Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, or similar

• Ability to critically assess AI-generated code, identifying logic flaws, security vulnerabilities, and maintainability issues

• Strong instincts for system design that involve trade-offs, edge cases, scaling, and potential failure modes

• Solid coding standards, including peer code reviews, unit testing, continuous integration, and TDD

• Familiarity with relational and/or non-relational databases

• Strong grasp of AI tools and fundamentals of production software

• Experience with on-call rotations and willingness to address occasional production issues outside of regular hours when on-call

• Familiarity with Ruby, GraphQL APIs, RabbitMQ or other messaging queues, B2B software, booking flows, or the travel sector is a plus
