Senior Backend Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New York.

📋 Description

• Contribute to the essential infrastructure that powers Arbitrum, the foremost Ethereum scaling solution.

• Address intricate challenges associated with distributed systems, enhance performance, and play a role in the security and scalability of Arbitrum.

• Work in collaboration with research, product, and blockchain engineering teams.

• Offer continuous technical support and engineering advice to both clients and internal stakeholders by identifying and resolving key platform engineering issues.

• Manage the Nitro Testnode product, which includes implementing improvements, diagnosing problems, and ensuring its reliability and usability.

• Perform peer code reviews to maintain code quality, architectural coherence, and compliance with software engineering best practices.

• Define and promote backend architectural standards, technology stack selections, and engineering best practices.

• Develop high-performance compiler pipelines and flexible SDK frameworks.

• Partner with the Security team to address intricate security challenges and recognize possible threats and vulnerabilities.

• Lead the technical roadmap in conjunction with Product for complex distributed systems and data modeling initiatives.

• Supervise the integration of various microservices, database scalability and integrity under high loads, and API-first strategies for long-term system interoperability.

⛳️ Requirements

• A Bachelor’s degree or its U.S. equivalent in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Computer Engineering, or a related field, along with 5 years of professional experience as a Software Engineer, Software Architect, or in a similar role designing, developing, and securing blockchain-based backend systems.

• Alternatively, a Master’s degree or its U.S. equivalent in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Computer Engineering, or a related field, plus 3 years of professional experience as a Software Engineer, Software Architect, or in a related position focusing on blockchain-based backend systems.

• A minimum of 3 years of professional experience developing backend systems using backend programming languages such as Go or Rust.

• At least 3 years of experience working on protocols that span from L1s to L2s, particularly in contexts aiming to minimize reliance on L1 smart contracts.

• 3 years of professional experience collaborating with research teams to advance innovative research in blockchain technologies and cryptocurrency platforms.

• 3 years of professional experience in building distributed systems, emphasizing reliable broadcast protocols, distributed data structures, and high-performance database storage engines.

• 3 years of experience working closely with security and coding with a security-centric approach in distributed systems environments.

• 3 years of professional experience working with blockchain protocols.

• A year of experience with WebAssembly, including crafting high-performance and secure code in production settings.

• A year of professional experience utilizing cloud infrastructure and containerization technologies, such as AWS, Docker, and Kubernetes.

• Candidates must reside in the U.S.

• This position is not available for residents of California or Colorado.
