Senior Backend Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Assume responsibility for a multi-tenant reporting architecture that caters to over 3000 tenants and handles millions of processed records.

• Design and implement the migration of outdated reporting systems (MSSQL/SSRS) to a NodeJS/Aurora MySQL/AWS infrastructure.

• Develop, maintain, and scale ETL processes, data replication workflows, and data synchronization engines.

• Detect and address database performance issues through index optimization, denormalized columns, and rollup tables.

• Create and develop scalable REST APIs for SaaS reporting functionalities.

• Work in collaboration with the Product team to translate reporting needs into actionable technical implementation strategies.

• Partner with Frontend Engineers to provide data visualizations.

• Engage in code reviews and produce automated integration and unit tests.

• Ensure that backend code and data models adhere to contemporary best practices.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 5 years of experience in backend software engineering, specifically focused on database architecture, data processing, ETL, and reporting systems.

• Strong expertise in JavaScript (ES6+) and NodeJS (Express, Fastify, AWS Lambda).

• Advanced practical experience with MySQL, modern ORMs (such as Sequelize), and crafting optimized raw SQL queries.

• Direct experience with AWS cloud services (Aurora Serverless, DynamoDB, SQS).

• Proven history of executing database migrations or modernizing legacy systems.

• Comprehensive understanding of indexing, stored procedures, denormalization techniques, and the creation of rollup tables for reporting purposes.

• Extensive experience in building ETL processes, data replication, and high-volume data synchronization engines.

• Familiarity with modern ORMs while also knowing when to leverage raw SQL for performance enhancements.

• Exceptional verbal and written communication abilities.

• A strong sense of empathy for users and a keen interest in understanding how they interact with Commerce7.
