Senior Backend Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Germany.

📋 Description

• Lead and enhance backend workstreams within the Media Planning team, concentrating on the media allocation engine, Kafka integration, and the DocuSign approval process.

• Assume full ownership of technical topics, guiding them from problem identification and approach formulation through implementation, testing, deployment, and follow-up.

• Collaborate with product and engineering teams to define scope, sequence tasks, and evaluate trade-offs.

• Develop and maintain event-driven contracts with Order Management utilizing Kafka and outbox patterns.

• Contribute to a distributed GraphQL backend architecture that encompasses multiple services.

• Analyze cross-service dependencies and ensure eventual consistency.

• Work in partnership with backend, frontend, product, and DevOps teams on collaborative initiatives.

• Review code and engage in technical discussions.

• Enhance engineering standards through teamwork and execution.

• Identify constraints and risks early in the process and drive projects to completion.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 6 years of backend engineering experience, preferably in startup or scale-up settings.

• Proficient in TypeScript and Node.js backend development.

• Familiarity with GraphQL in real product environments, ideally with federation or subgraph-based architectures.

• Practical experience with event-driven systems and distributed architecture patterns, including Kafka, outbox patterns, and at-least-once delivery semantics.

• Experience with NestJS is a significant advantage.

• Capable of making autonomous decisions with incomplete information and taking responsibility for results.

• Possess a highly structured and analytical mindset.

• Communicate clearly and directly about scope, trade-offs, risks, and delivery timelines.

• Comfortable working within a lean team that values high ownership, initiative, and standards.

• Experience in AdTech, MarTech, SaaS, or other event-driven platform environments is a plus.

• Proficiency in English is required.
