Senior Backend Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Belgium, +3 more countries.

📋 Description

• Develop dependable and scalable payment services that simplify disputes for both customers and partners.

• Take ownership of backend features throughout the entire process, from API design and implementation to deployment, monitoring, and operational support.

• Spearhead the architecture and advancement of cloud-based microservices.

• Ensure the system’s scalability, performance, security, and alignment with mobile and business requirements.

• Establish and maintain high standards of code quality while applying best practices for creating maintainable and testable services.

• Provide backend expertise to frontend engineers, offering guidance on API usage, data contracts, and performance considerations.

• Influence backend platform decisions based on existing product requirements and anticipated growth.

• Balance platform consistency with the specific needs of web applications through practical technical compromises.

• Enhance backend reliability, developer experience, and delivery speed for mobile and platform teams.

• Collaborate effectively with product management, design, frontend, QA, and other backend teams.

• Select and lead roadmap topics, contributing to product-related decisions.

• Engage throughout the product lifecycle, from ideation and discovery to deployment and operational support.

• Report directly to the Engineering Manager and closely collaborate with the Product Manager and engineering team.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 7 years of professional experience in software development, including at least 5 years focused on backend development.

• A degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field is preferred.

• Proficiency in English (CEFR C1 or C2).

• Knowledge of French, German, Dutch, or other European languages is advantageous.

• Ability to excel in a remote-first, multicultural environment.

• Proven track record in constructing scalable system architectures.

• Familiarity with modern design patterns and REST API design.

• Dedication to maintaining clear technical documentation.

• Capability to identify and implement effective automated tests at suitable levels.

• Demonstrated end-to-end ownership of features.

• Experience collaborating across teams with minimal supervision.

• Familiarity with frontend technologies is a plus.

• Willingness to assist with frontend tasks is a plus.

• Experience in designing and implementing Backend-for-Frontend services is a plus.

• Understanding of API contracts, performance, and client-specific requirements is a plus.
