Senior Backend Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Develop and sustain the Buenro platform.

• Collaborate closely with the Frontend/Mobile and Systems & Platform teams.

• Design and uphold backend infrastructure.

• Create new features and functionalities for the Buenro platform.

• Implement solid and maintainable backend services using Node.js and NestJS.

• Troubleshoot production issues across the entire stack utilizing logs, metrics, and traces.

• Enhance backend APIs and middleware.

• Optimize practices for authentication and RBAC/ABAC.

• Utilize message queues and in-memory databases to boost performance and efficiency.

• Provide low-latency, secure, and fault-tolerant backend solutions.

• Ensure exceptional availability, performance, and scalability.

⛳️ Requirements

• At least 5+ years of experience in backend applications and API development.

• Advanced proficiency in Node.js and NestJS, including dependency injection, guards, interceptors, modules, and decorators.

• Advanced proficiency in TypeScript, covering advanced types, generics, utility types, and strict mode.

• Strong expertise in MongoDB, including indexes, aggregation pipelines, sharding, replica sets, and schema design.

• Strong expertise in PostgreSQL, covering complex joins, transactions, and JSONB.

• Proficient in Prisma ORM, including schema modeling, migrations, query optimization, and middleware.

• Experience with GitHub Actions in a production environment, including workflows, secrets, matrix builds, and reusable actions.

• Experience with Terraform in a production setting, covering modules, state management, providers, and drift detection.

• Production experience with AWS ECS, including task definitions, service networking, load balancing, IAM roles, and CloudWatch.

• Strong comprehension of RESTful API design, OpenAPI/Swagger, JWT authentication, and rate limiting.

• Expertise in NoSQL databases, document modeling, data denormalization, consistency models, and performance tuning in distributed environments.

• In-depth understanding of asynchronous programming, event-driven architecture, and message queues like SQS and RabbitMQ.

• Familiarity with unit testing using Jest, integration testing, and end-to-end testing with Supertest and Playwright.

• Experience with microservices, domain-driven design, and CQRS patterns is advantageous.

• Front-end experience with React, Angular, or Vue.js is a significant advantage.

• Prior experience in leading teams and coaching or mentoring engineers is a considerable asset.

• Ability to work remotely within a time zone difference of approximately +/- 3–4 hours from CET.
