Senior Backend Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Singapore.

📋 Description

• Design, develop, operate, and enhance backend systems for various mobile products.

• Navigate challenges from vague beginnings through architecture, implementation, deployment, and iteration.

• Examine systems not originally created by the engineer.

• Collaborate directly with product teams, frontend developers, data analysts, and other engineers.

• Refine existing systems and assess when rewrites are not necessary.

• Address and assist in the resolution of production incidents.

• Comprehend system context, upstream and downstream impacts, scaling risks, and engineering trade-offs.

• Document decisions, communicate effectively, and prioritize outcomes.

• Transition between products, codebases, and technical environments as priorities shift.

⛳️ Requirements

• Typically 5+ years of experience in backend engineering.

• Experience in designing or making substantial modifications to backend systems.

• Proven track record in making architectural decisions and articulating trade-offs.

• Familiarity with databases beyond merely using an ORM.

• Expertise in operating and troubleshooting services in a production environment.

• Knowledge of infrastructure.

• Experience in transforming unclear problems into shipped solutions.

• Capability to learn new technologies as required.

• Ability to quickly become effective in Go; prior production experience in Go is advantageous.

• Strong backend proficiency in another programming language may be acceptable with demonstrated ability to quickly learn new stacks.

• Understanding of relational databases, schema design, migrations, indexing, and query performance.

• Knowledge of distributed systems, message queues, and brokers like Kafka.

• Familiarity with Docker and Kubernetes.

• Understanding of cloud infrastructure and APIs.

• Knowledge of observability, performance, reliability, and failure modes.
