Senior Backend Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Develop new platforms and enhance existing systems that empower millions of users to find and engage with relevant library content.

• Integrate and collaborate with third-party API solutions to expand BiblioCore capabilities.

• Advocate for AI-first development methodologies within the team and establish safe and effective standards for AI integration.

• Employ spec-driven development practices with coding agents and evaluate agent outputs.

• Design and promote agentic workflows throughout the software development lifecycle (SDLC), covering planning, coding, code review, testing, documentation, and operations.

• Utilize AI coding assistants and coding agents such as Claude Code, Amazon Q, Copilot, or comparable tools.

• Provide technical guidance for initiatives aimed at enhancing scalability, resilience, quality, and security.

• Oversee the design, development, and operationalization of features and systems.

• Address technical debt to accelerate the delivery of features.

• Diagnose and conduct root cause analysis on systemic issues.

• Engage in code reviews and discussions on best practices.

• Mentor Junior and Intermediate Engineers.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 7 years of professional experience in backend software development.

• Proven expertise with Spring, Maven/Gradle, and associated Java technologies.

• Solid theoretical grounding in data structures, algorithms, and software engineering best practices.

• Demonstrated experience in AI-enabled development, including practical use of coding agents and AI coding tools, and facilitating teams in adopting contemporary AI-assisted workflows.

• Experience with spec-driven development utilizing coding agents.

• Familiarity or hands-on experience with agentic workflows in the SDLC.

• Extensive experience in building RESTful API applications and integrating third-party APIs.

• Proficient in debugging and optimizing large-scale, multi-threaded systems.

• A mindset geared towards end-to-end ownership of services.

• Ability to work independently.

• Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate across teams.

• Knowledge of industry best practices, tools, and frameworks.
