Senior Backend Engineer – Amadeus

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Latin America.

📋 Description

• Design, develop, and sustain integrations with Amadeus APIs and various GDS systems.

• Create and improve a booking engine that supports flights and hotels, with plans to include car rental in the future.

• Manage the entire reservation lifecycle, encompassing search and pricing, booking, ticketing, cancellations, modifications, and refunds.

• Address price and availability alterations during the process, manage PNRs, multi-destination itineraries, and room/rate combinations.

• Construct and maintain backend services and APIs that drive travel workflows.

• Collaborate with engineering, product, and QA teams across multiple time zones.

• Take responsibility for features from the design phase through to production.

• Ensure the scalability, performance, and reliability of integrations and systems.

• Enhance engineering practices, focusing on code quality, testing, and architectural maturity.

• Contribute to the development of the core booking engine from scratch.

⛳️ Requirements

• Proven experience in building travel products utilizing GDS APIs; priority given to Amadeus, with Sabre or Travelport also considered.

• Familiarity with the reservation lifecycle, including air and hotel booking processes, ticketing, cancellations, rescheduling, refunds, and exchanges.

• Practical knowledge of PNR, fare rules, negotiated/private fares, availability, and pricing behaviors.

• Strong backend engineering background (5–10+ years, or equivalent experience).

• Experience in creating API integrations and distributed systems.

• Proficiency in PHP (Laravel), or significant backend experience in another language with a willingness to work in PHP.

• Familiarity with relational databases such as MySQL.

• Ability to independently investigate inadequate vendor documentation and API behaviors.

• Capacity to work autonomously in a senior individual contributor role.

• Exposure to NDC/direct airline distribution, Python, AWS/GCP/Azure, NoSQL databases, scaling products, CI/CD, testing, or engineering processes is advantageous.

• Excellent communication skills across distributed teams.

• Expertise in the travel technology domain and comprehension of travel business logic.

• Frontend experience is not a requirement.
