Senior Backend Engineer – AI-Native

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Kenya.

📋 Description

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services utilizing Python, Flask, and FastAPI.

• Engage in frontend development efforts with Next.js.

• Contribute to the entire technology stack, including APIs and integrations.

• Establish technical specifications for AI-enhanced development workflows.

• Leverage AI tools such as Claude Code and Codex to expedite the development process.

• Review, test, and validate AI-generated code to ensure accuracy, security, and performance.

• Architect systems that are reliable, observable, and scalable.

• Develop testing and validation pipelines, including unit tests, integration tests, and automated quality assurance.

• Collaborate with Data teams to deliver comprehensive features.

• Troubleshoot complex production issues and implement effective solutions.

• Enhance engineering efficiency through improved tools and processes.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 5 years of software engineering experience within production environments.

• Strong expertise in Python and backend frameworks such as Flask and FastAPI.

• Intermediate proficiency in frontend development.

• Experience in building and scaling APIs and distributed systems.

• Comfort in working across the entire stack, with a preference for some frontend exposure.

• Strong skills in system design and a solid understanding of software architecture principles.

• Familiarity with AI coding tools like Claude Code, Codex, or GitHub Copilot in everyday workflows.

• Capability to write clear, structured technical specifications and prompts for code generation.

• Strong code review capabilities, particularly in assessing AI-generated outputs.

• Understanding of trade-offs, failure modes, and quality risks associated with AI-assisted development.

• Experience in establishing testing, validation, and monitoring safeguards for generated code.

• Knowledge of Git, CI/CD, Docker, and Linux/Unix environments.

• Valid work authorization for Kenya.
