Senior Backend Developer – eCommerce

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Develop and sustain custom Magento / Adobe Commerce modules from initial design to final release.

• Diagnose intricate backend issues and provide dependable, maintainable solutions.

• Construct GraphQL functionalities for headless experiences.

• Integrate internal and external systems utilizing REST and GraphQL APIs, webhooks, and asynchronous processing.

• Recognize repetitive engineering and business tasks and implement AI-driven workflow automations.

• Link AI solutions with existing systems, ensuring validation, error handling, logging, and human oversight.

• Write and uphold unit tests while integrating automated testing and quality assurance checks into build and release processes.

• Develop and manage Shopify integrations, applications, webhook handlers, and Liquid customizations.

• Generate scripts and utilities for data processing, migrations, troubleshooting, and recurring operational duties.

• Engage in technical design discussions, code reviews, environment management, and deployments.

• Share expertise and collaborate with frontend, QA, product, and infrastructure teams.

• Report directly to the VP of Software Engineering.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 5 years of substantial hands-on experience with Magento 2 / Adobe Commerce and PHP.

• Profound understanding of plugins, observers, dependency injection, service contracts, EAV, and the application lifecycle.

• Capability to enhance platform functionality without altering core code.

• Experience in creating and extending schema.graphqls definitions and implementing custom GraphQL resolvers.

• Proficient in building and maintaining REST and GraphQL integrations as well as webhook consumers.

• Familiarity with authentication, retries, idempotency, rate limits, queueing, logging, and recovery from integration failures.

• Practical experience utilizing AI tools or large language model APIs for workflow automation.

• Ability to design prompts, work with structured outputs, integrate AI into applications, and validate outcomes.

• Awareness of data privacy, cost, reliability, and appropriate application of rules-based automation.

• Skill in creating scripts and utilities using Python, Node.js, PHP, or similar technologies.

• Experience in writing meaningful, maintainable unit tests, ideally with PHPUnit.

• Proficient in isolating dependencies, effectively using mocks, and covering business logic, edge cases, and failure scenarios.

• Capability to review and validate AI-generated tests.

• Working knowledge of Liquid, Shopify Admin and Storefront APIs, app development, and webhooks.

• Experience with Adobe Commerce Cloud environments and the magento-cloud CLI.

• Understanding of environment configuration, deployment workflows, and basic CI/CD practices.

• Strong grasp of Git branching, pull requests, code reviews, merge conflict resolution, and release coordination.

• Ability to communicate technical decisions clearly, work independently, and collaborate across teams.
