This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Take the lead in designing, executing, and updating assurance systems that support certification, verification, and responsible sourcing initiatives.
• Act as the internal expert on assurance systems and conformity assessment methodologies.
• Supervise and perform performance assessments of certified bodies, pinpointing areas for improvement.
• Ensure that assurance requirements are in line with globally recognized conformity assessment standards and accreditation expectations.
• Assess new assurance methodologies, auditing techniques, and technological advancements.
• Contribute to the development of new certification and verification programs by guaranteeing that they are auditable, verifiable, and operationally feasible.
• Review and assess the accuracy, substantiation, and consistency of certification-related claims.
• Keep abreast of legislative, regulatory, and policy changes that impact sustainability claims, environmental marketing, responsible sourcing, chain of custody, and certification frameworks.
• Offer strategic advice regarding regulatory risks, claims governance, and assurance consequences.
• Support the establishment of policies and procedures that enhance market confidence and the credibility of programs.
• Engage in stakeholder consultations, working groups, conferences, and industry initiatives.
• Provide technical assistance to advisory service projects.
• Serve as a senior advisor to clients on the design of assurance systems, certification preparedness, claims governance, chain of custody implementation, and responsible sourcing initiatives.
• Undertake additional responsibilities and special projects as required.
• Bachelor's Degree in Sustainability, Environmental Science, Engineering, Supply Chain Management, Public Policy, Business, or a related discipline.
• Over 8 years of professional experience in certification, auditing, assurance systems, standards development, conformity assessment, responsible sourcing, or related fields.
• Proven expertise in ISO/IEC 17065 and/or ISO/IEC 17021.
• Extensive experience with voluntary sustainability standards and certification programs.
• Experience in developing, implementing, managing, or auditing chain of custody systems.
• Strong comprehension of certification body operations, auditing processes, and accreditation frameworks.
• Exceptional technical writing, analytical, and problem-solving capabilities.
• Ability to distill complex technical, regulatory, and market data into actionable assurance solutions.
• Demonstrated experience in project management and stakeholder engagement.
• Capacity to work independently while juggling multiple priorities and deadlines.
• Complete fluency in English with a background in professional and technical verbal and written communication.
• Strong strategic thinking and innovative problem-solving abilities.
• A Master's Degree in a relevant field is preferred.
• Experience in auditing, accreditation, or assurance management is preferred.
• Familiarity with sustainability claims, environmental marketing claims, recycled content, responsible sourcing, agricultural, climate, or circular economy programs is preferred.
• Experience collaborating with accreditation bodies, certification organizations, standard-setting bodies, or multinational sustainability initiatives is preferred.
• Knowledge of evolving sustainability regulations and green claims legislation in Europe and North America is preferred.
• Proven capability to implement assurance best practices across various industries and certification systems is preferred.
• Experience in designing assurance frameworks for emerging sustainability topics is preferred.
