This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
β’ Lead and participate in research and analysis concerning utility cost allocation, ratemaking, and associated regulatory matters.
β’ Review utility submissions, commission orders, stakeholder feedback, legislation, and other pertinent sources.
β’ Convert regulatory and policy developments into structured analytical inquiries, assumptions, scenarios, and sensitivities.
β’ Conduct or assist in quantitative analyses alongside quantitative modelers and subject-matter experts.
β’ Assess assumptions, interpret results, and communicate findings, limitations, and trade-offs relevant to decision-making.
β’ Independently oversee assigned research and analytical workstreams, which include planning, coordination, drafting initial documents, meeting preparation, and follow-through.
β’ Identify gaps, risks, and strategic questions that require leadership's attention for project direction.
β’ Support interactions with regulators, commission staff, consumer advocates, utilities, policymakers, and other stakeholders.
β’ Create briefing materials, synthesize viewpoints, document decisions and next steps, and guide selected discussions with senior oversight.
β’ Apply project management techniques to guarantee high-quality and timely project outputs.
β’ Report to a Manager within RMIβs Electricity Program.
β’ 4+ years of relevant professional experience in utility regulation, ratemaking, energy consulting, utility finance or planning, consumer advocacy, public policy, law, or quantitative analysis pertinent to the electricity sector.
β’ Exceptional time management, organizational skills, entrepreneurial spirit, and motivation.
β’ Proven experience in independently managing significant tasks or workstreams within a project-based setting.
β’ Quantitative proficiency and comfort with financial and ratemaking analyses.
β’ Ability to structure calculations, evaluate assumptions, perform scenario or sensitivity analyses, and interpret results.
β’ Strong understanding of utility cost allocation, including knowledge of cost-of-service analysis, allocation methods, customer impacts, and relevant regulatory trade-offs.
β’ Capability to review and synthesize complex regulatory documents, commission decisions, stakeholder proposals, technical studies, and related materials.
β’ Ability to translate regulatory and policy inquiries into structured research and analytical methodologies.
β’ Quantitative proficiency and comfort with spreadsheets, financial or ratemaking analyses, and model outputs.
β’ Ability to assess assumptions and interpret analytical findings; advanced model-building skills are not mandatory.
β’ Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
β’ Strong organizational skills, judgment, attention to detail, and commitment to follow-through.
β’ Current, independent authorization to work in the U.S. without present or future sponsorship from RMI.
β’ Preferred: Direct experience in the electric utility sector, consulting, or electric regulatory entities.
β’ Preferred: Experience with utilities, regional grid operators, regulators, commission staff, consumer advocates, distributed energy resource providers, community organizations, policymakers, or other stakeholders in the electricity sector.
β’ Preferred: Expertise in utility finance and accounting, revenue requirements, cost allocation, cost-of-service analysis, rate design, distribution system planning, grid modernization, distributed energy resources, or inclusive regulatory process design.
β’ Preferred: Willingness to travel 10β20%.
