Senior Applied Scientist, Search – Information Retrieval

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States, +2 more locations.

📋 Description

• Create, construct, and implement comprehensive neural search systems from start to finish

• Design models aimed at understanding queries, re-ranking documents, and enhancing retrieval quality

• Establish evaluation frameworks utilizing expert annotations

• Make independent technical choices regarding retrieval architecture and ranking models

• Collaborate with engineering teams to ensure delivery, reliability, and scalability across various product lines

• Contribute to research published in prestigious venues

⛳️ Requirements

• PhD or Master's degree in Computer Science, AI, NLP, or a related discipline

• Over 5 years of relevant industry experience post-degree in deploying search, retrieval, or RAG systems into production

• Published works in conferences such as SIGIR, ECIR, NeurIPS, ACL, EMNLP, ICLR, or similar

• Proficiency in production Python and familiarity with frameworks like PyTorch, DeepSpeed, Torchtune, or LlamaFactory

• Extensive hands-on experience in the fundamentals of Neural IR: BM25, hybrid search, dense retrieval (DPR, ColBERT), bi-encoders, cross-encoders, and late interaction models

• Expertise in the design of search and RAG systems, including vector databases, retrieval strategies, document chunking, metadata filtering, re-ranking, context optimization, and orchestration

• Skills in designing evaluation frameworks for assessing retrieval quality

• Strong foundation in deep learning and NLP principles
