Senior Android Engineer – Kotlin, Jetpack Compose

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Texas.

📋 Description

• Take charge of the architecture and development of OleOle’s native Android application.

• Collaborate closely with backend, product, and design teams.

• Develop the mobile implementation for social features, messaging, video, live scores, and payment functionalities.

• Design and construct the Android application utilizing Kotlin and Jetpack Compose.

• Integrate backend APIs and real-time services.

• Create high-performance social feeds and microblogging features.

• Implement short-form vertical video capabilities, including capture, upload, playback, and media management.

• Develop encrypted one-to-one messaging and real-time chat functionalities.

• Integrate voice and video calling features.

• Build functionalities for contacts, invitations, and user discovery.

• Implement live scores, real-time match events, and push notifications.

• Integrate authentication, account management, and secure session handling.

• Incorporate wallet, payment, and rewards functionalities.

• Implement localization and translation features.

• Optimize startup time, scrolling, media playback, networking, caching, and battery efficiency.

• Ensure reliable performance across various Android devices and under poor or intermittent network conditions.

• Take ownership of testing, debugging, and ensuring the production reliability of the Android application.

• Manage features from architecture to Google Play production release.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 7 years of professional software engineering experience, particularly in native Android development.

• Expert proficiency in Kotlin and substantial production experience with Jetpack Compose.

• Proven track record in architecting, building, and launching complex consumer Android applications.

• Experience in developing at least one significant product that includes social feeds, messaging, short-form video, live content, or real-time communications.

• Strong expertise in Kotlin Coroutines and Flow.

• Significant experience with WebSockets and real-time/event-driven mobile applications.

• Production experience with WebRTC or similar voice/video calling technologies.

• Strong knowledge of CameraX and Media3/ExoPlayer, including video capture, playback, compression, upload, and media management.

• In-depth understanding of Android networking, caching, memory management, and mobile performance optimization.

• Production experience with Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM), push notifications, and background processing.

• Experience with implementing authentication, Android Keystore/secure storage, session management, and privacy-sensitive features.

• Proven ability to integrate complex backend APIs and collaborate directly with backend engineers as APIs evolve.

• Comprehensive understanding of the Android application lifecycle, background execution, device/OS fragmentation, and poor or intermittent network conditions.

• Experience guiding applications through Google Play review, release, and production operations.

• Demonstrated capability to independently manage a major application or feature from architecture through to production.

• Strong debugging, profiling, testing, and production troubleshooting abilities.

• Must be a hands-on engineer who actively writes production code, rather than primarily serving as an engineering manager.

• Creative problem-solver who is willing to propose and champion new ideas.

• Ability to adapt to a diverse range of problems and technologies.

• Comfortable with ambiguity, shifting priorities, and the challenges of a growing early-stage company.

• Exhibits exceptional entrepreneurial judgment, emphasizing independence over micro-management.

• A solid understanding of football and international sports is a significant advantage.
