This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Croatia.
• Design, test, and sustain high-performance background services and system-level code that drive interactive large-format displays and bedside TV applications.
• Partner with hardware collaborators to integrate device-level functionalities, privileged app permissions, and custom OS features such as remote resets and log capture.
• Assess technical trade-offs and create prototypes to guide essential roadmap decisions.
• Engage in sprint ceremonies and conduct peer code reviews.
• Collaborate closely with product management and client engineering leads to implement concurrent technical tracks.
• Over 6 years of experience in Android engineering, particularly in system-level components, background processing, and service architecture.
• In-depth knowledge of the Android SDK.
• Proficiency in Foreground Services, process lifecycle management, Low Memory Killer (LMK) tuning, thread scheduling, and preventing OS-level service termination (Doze mode/battery optimization bypasses).
• Experience in developing robust background sync engines utilizing WebSockets, MQTT, or gRPC.
• Comprehensive understanding of Inter-Process Communication (IPC).
• Strong focus on clean coding practices, modular design, state management, and extensive unit/integration testing.
• Solid grasp of REST architecture.
• Strong knowledge of Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) principles and design.
• Excellent problem-solving abilities.
• Quick research and learning capabilities.
• Clear and confident verbal and written communication skills to work directly with cross-functional product and engineering teams.
• Employment is subject to the provision of documentation verifying legal work authorization in the candidate's country of residence.
• Nice to have: practical experience with custom Android Open Source Project (AOSP) builds or custom Android firmware/ROM setups.
• Nice to have: familiarity with Android Enterprise & MDM APIs, including DevicePolicyManager, Device Owner/Profile Owner modes, Lock Task mode (Kiosk), and enterprise provisioning.
• Nice to have: experience collaborating with OEM hardware vendors, including custom board bring-ups, serial communication, and hardware vendor APIs.
• Nice to have: knowledge of clinical device deployments, HIPAA compliance, or secure on-device data storage protocols.
• Nice to have: experience with or a willingness to learn Flutter.
