Senior Android Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in India.

📋 Description

• Take ownership and enhance the native Android application across various devices including smartphones, tablets, and Chromebooks.

• Manage the reading experience, which encompasses the in-house page renderer, page-flip animations, zoom functionalities, gestures, and Read-to-Me audio synchronized with word highlighting.

• Oversee offline reading capabilities, involving encrypted downloads, background processes, local storage management, Google Play Billing subscriptions, and the Play Store release pipeline.

• Enhance performance, stability, and quality metrics, focusing on startup times, memory usage, ANRs, crashes, and overall test coverage.

• Modernize outdated Java and RxJava code while transitioning to Compose UIs where feasible, ensuring the live application remains unaffected.

• Gradually engage in some iOS/Swift development work.

• Collaborate with Android, iOS, backend, web, and US engineering teams.

⛳️ Requirements

• 4–6 years of experience in developing and delivering native Android applications.

• Proficient in Kotlin with a strong comfort level in working with mixed Kotlin and Java codebases.

• Extensive knowledge of the Android View system, including Fragments, custom Views, custom drawing, animations, and touch event handling.

• Proven production experience with RxJava 2 and Kotlin coroutines.

• Familiarity with dependency injection, MVP or MVVM architectural patterns, Retrofit, and OkHttp.

• Experience utilizing Room/SQLite, managing schema migrations, and using WorkManager.

• Knowledge of Google Play Billing and the release pipeline, including Gradle build variants, app signing, CI processes, Play Console tracks, and staged rollouts.

• Experience with testing frameworks such as JUnit, Mockito or MockK, Robolectric, and Espresso.

• A Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience is required.
