Senior AI/RAG Engineer – Software Development Analyst

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Virginia.

📋 Description

• Create and maintain production-level Python backend services and RESTful APIs.

• Develop secure API specifications that encompass schemas, documentation, validation, authentication, authorization, error handling, and versioning.

• Execute business logic, workflows, asynchronous processing, and integrations with enterprise systems, databases, and AI/RAG services.

• Connect services with authorized Amazon Bedrock functionalities using Boto3 and established AI service interfaces.

• Facilitate streamed AI responses and implement retries, timeouts, logging, auditing, and error recovery mechanisms.

• Design and optimize models, queries, transactions, and data-access patterns for PostgreSQL or equivalent relational databases.

• Apply Zero Trust security principles, DoW/DoD ICAM integration, least-privilege access, secure service-to-service communication, API authorization, encryption, secrets management, and audit logging.

• Develop and modify application components in compliance with STIG/SRG requirements and assist in security assessment and authorization processes.

• Engage in DevSecOps methodologies, including Git, CI/CD, automated testing, containerized delivery, vulnerability remediation, and application monitoring.

• Collaborate with teams focused on front-end, AI/ML, platform, cybersecurity, and identity.

• Provide support for DSCA through secure, scalable services and integrations for an AI-enabled enterprise application within AWS GovCloud IL4/IL5.

⛳️ Requirements

• Extensive experience in developing Python backend services and RESTful APIs.

• Proficiency with FastAPI, Flask, Django, or similar Python web frameworks.

• Familiarity with SQL and relational databases, ideally PostgreSQL.

• Experience integrating cloud services, enterprise systems, and both external and internal APIs.

• Knowledge of integrating applications with AI/LLM or RAG services.

• Proficient in Git, automated testing, CI/CD, secure software development, and containerized applications.

• Working understanding of AWS cloud services and cloud-native application design.

• Experience in implementing authentication, API and service-level authorization, and enterprise identity integration using OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, SAML, JWT, RBAC, or ABAC.

• Familiarity with DoW/DoD ICAM, Zero Trust principles, least-privilege access, and secure software supply chain practices.

• Understanding of applicable DISA STIGs, SRGs, secure configuration requirements, and vulnerability-remediation workflows.

• Must have and maintain an active Secret clearance at the time of consideration.

• Bachelor's degree in a related discipline with 5 to 9 years of relevant experience depending on software development level; or Master's degree with 3 to 7 years; or PhD with 0 to 4 years; or high school diploma/equivalent with 9 to 13 years.

• Preferred: Over 8 years of experience.

• Preferred experience with AWS GovCloud, Amazon Bedrock, API Gateway, S3, and Boto3.

• Preferred experience with streaming APIs, WebSockets, server-sent events, queues, or asynchronous processing.

• Preferred experience with RAG architectures, vector databases, document-ingestion workflows, or AI orchestration services.

• Preferred experience supporting RMF activities, security-control evidence, continuous monitoring, or STIG/SRG assessment remediation.

• Must be available during Eastern Time Zone core business hours.

• Must maintain a home work environment that meets company and government security standards.

• Must be able to work during assigned East Coast core business hours.
