Senior AI Engineer – Location AI

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.

📋 Description

• Establish product behaviors, measurement frameworks, evaluation systems, datasets, and regression gates for non-deterministic AI offerings.

• Regularly assess APIs, SDKs, data representations, and reference applications from the perspective of end-users.

• Detect misuse, integration anti-patterns, and product deficiencies; suggest and implement solutions.

• Take ownership of MVP delivery in accordance with a technical design while ensuring quality and meaningful increments.

• Develop data pipelines and tools for data ingestion, conflation, entity resolution, quality assurance checks, and both batch and streaming processing.

• Monitor and assess external datasets, models, benchmarks, research, and open-source contributions.

• Create feedback loops and instrumentation that yield reproducible failure contexts.

• Define model-tool boundaries and enhance or construct model harnesses.

• Enhance request latency and cost efficiency through streaming, partial results, caching, model routing, and prompt structuring.

• Develop internal CLI, MCP, and other engineering utilities, sharing reusable components.

• Perform code and design reviews while mentoring engineers on evaluation methodologies.

• Explore unresolved technical queries within AI systems.

• Engage in a 24/7 on-call rotation to ensure system availability.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in a STEM field.

• Over 5 years of software engineering experience with ownership of production services, pipelines, or SDKs.

• At least 2 years of experience delivering LLM-backed features to real users in systems with error budgets, on-call rotations, and customer-facing regressions.

• Direct experience or profound understanding of designing evaluations for non-deterministic systems.

• Experience in building datasets and identifying failures captured by evaluations.

• Strong data engineering expertise, including SQL and familiarity with at least one distributed processing framework.

• Experience with pipelines where data accuracy is crucial.

• Proficiency in tool calling and agent orchestration, including stale context, hallucinated arguments, silent partial successes, and unbounded loops.

• Working knowledge of multiple agent harnesses.

• Strong proficiency in Python or TypeScript and the ability to interpret code in other programming languages.

• Experience in diagnosing latency issues in distributed request paths.

• Excellent written communication skills.

• Willingness to participate in an on-call rotation, including immediate responses outside regular working hours and during weekends.

• Nice to have: experience with geospatial data, public API or SDK design, MCP or similar tool transports, CI evaluations, automotive/IVI/CarPlay/Android Auto, voice pipelines, constrained or offline compute, and initial external integrations.
