Senior AI Engineer, Location AI

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Germany.

📋 Description

• Establish product behavior, develop measurement frameworks, and implement evaluation systems for non-deterministic behavior.

• Formulate product hypotheses and validate them through relevant signals.

• Define accurate outcomes, compile datasets, and regulate changes based on regression results.

• Continuously assess APIs, SDKs, data representations, and reference applications from the end-user viewpoint.

• Identify misuse, integration anti-patterns, and product deficiencies; propose and execute solutions.

• Take ownership of MVP delivery according to an agreed technical design while balancing perfection with practical increments.

• Create data pipelines and tools for data ingestion, conflation, entity resolution, quality checks, and batch/streaming jobs.

• Monitor and assess external datasets, models, benchmarks, published research, and open-source releases.

• Design feedback loops and instrumentation to replicate failures and transform recurring issues into evaluation cases.

• Establish model/tool boundaries and either build or enhance model harnesses.

• Optimize latency and cost per request using techniques such as streaming, partial results, caching, model routing, and prompt structuring.

• Develop internal CLI, MCP, and related tools; promote the sharing of reusable components across teams.

• Elevate engineering standards through code and design reviews and instruct on evaluation practices.

• Assist in addressing unresolved technical queries in the field.

• Engage in a 24/7 on-call rotation to ensure system availability.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field.

• Over 5 years of software engineering experience with production ownership of services, pipelines, or SDKs.

• At least 2 years of experience delivering LLM-backed features to actual users in systems with error budgets, on-call rotations, and customer-visible regressions.

• Proficient in data engineering: SQL and at least one distributed processing framework.

• Experience with pipelines where the integrity of records is prioritized over processing speed.

• Proficient in tool calling and agent orchestration, including handling stale context, hallucinated arguments, silent partial success, and unbounded loops.

• Strong programming skills in Python or TypeScript.

• Comfortable reading code in other programming languages.

• Experience or a deep understanding of designing evaluations for non-deterministic systems.

• Ability to articulate a dataset created and the failure it addressed.

• Working knowledge of multiple agent harnesses.

• Experience in diagnosing latency within a distributed request path.

• Ability to navigate ambiguity and the judgement to deliver narrow, functional solutions.

• Participation in an on-call rotation, with the possibility of immediate response outside regular working hours and on weekends.

• Must be capable of working remotely from any location in Germany.
