Senior AI Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Design, develop, and implement generative AI functionalities across Typeform’s products, significantly contributing to Research Flow.

• Create applications utilizing large language models, RAG, vector search, and agentic systems.

• Construct services and APIs that enable product teams to incorporate AI functionalities into customer interactions.

• Transform prototypes into dependable production systems with defined performance and quality metrics.

• Investigate innovative methods for customers to gather, comprehend, and act upon information through AI.

• Design and manage machine learning services and workflows using Python, Docker, Kubernetes, and AWS.

• Develop robust pipelines for both batch and real-time processing utilizing technologies such as Kafka and Airflow.

• Create solutions with vector databases to enhance retrieval, recommendations, personalization, and semantic search.

• Utilize MLflow for managing experiments, model versions, registries, and deployments.

• Enhance the reliability, performance, scalability, and cost-effectiveness of AI systems.

• Establish automated evaluation pipelines and benchmarks for generative AI applications.

• Assess retrieval techniques including chunking, embeddings, context selection, and reranking.

• Oversee AI systems in production, implementing safeguards to minimize unexpected behaviors and protect customer data.

• Develop reusable patterns and technical standards for AI systems.

• Collaborate with Product, Engineering, Data Science, Data Engineering, and Analytics teams.

• Convert experiments and models into stable production services.

• Articulate technical concepts, risks, and trade-offs to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

• Contribute to technical planning and guide the AI strategy across Typeform.

• Share technical expertise and foster the growth of fellow engineers.

⛳️ Requirements

• Minimum of four years of experience in building and deploying machine learning or AI systems in a production environment.

• Proficient in Python and software engineering practices.

• Experience in developing production services using Python frameworks such as FastAPI.

• Practical experience in creating generative AI applications leveraging large language models, RAG, tool usage, or agentic systems.

• Familiarity with frameworks like PyTorch, LangChain, LangGraph, or similar technologies.

• Strong understanding of enterprise RAG systems, including chunking, embeddings, retrieval, reranking, evaluation, and monitoring.

• Experience in developing automated evaluations for generative AI applications.

• Proficiency with AWS, Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, and CI/CD practices.

• Experience utilizing services like AWS SageMaker or AWS Bedrock.

• Knowledge of Kafka, vector databases, or other technologies for real-time and high-dimensional data processing.

• Experience in managing machine learning workflows through MLflow.

• Experience in monitoring production systems using tools like Datadog or OpenSearch.

• Ability to balance quality, speed, reliability, scalability, and cost in technical decision-making.

• Strong communication skills with a background in collaborating with Product, Engineering, and Data teams.

• Experience in a B2B SaaS product company is highly desirable.

• Familiarity with orchestration tools such as Airflow or Argo Workflows is a plus.

• Knowledge of SQL, Spark, Snowflake, or other data processing technologies is a plus.

• Experience in building systems that integrate structured data, unstructured data, and generative AI is a plus.

• Familiarity with AI security, privacy, responsible AI, prompt injection protection, or data leakage prevention is a plus.

• Experience in optimizing latency and cost for AI systems operating at scale is a plus.
