Senior AI Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois.

📋 Description

• Take charge of delivering LLM-driven systems using Python and TypeScript, guiding projects from vague customer challenges to operational production.

• Collaborate with product managers and data scientists to define project scopes.

• Develop evaluation and guardrail strategies, set release gates, production indicators, and conduct historical claims simulations.

• Create standards for agentic coding tools, which encompass specifications, instruction files, hooks, permission policies, and code reviews.

• Design NLP pipelines that convert unstructured claims data into structured, actionable insights for customers.

• Determine the appropriate application of semantic search, classical NLP, or LLM methodologies.

• Construct and maintain robust, event-driven, multi-tenant systems that integrate agents within deterministic workflows.

• Architect failure modes, replay semantics, and cost profiles.

• Manage tracing and auditing to ensure model calls and agent steps can be reconstructed and referenced accurately.

• Oversee claims data modeling and management across relational, document, and graph databases.

• Set privacy and security standards, including tenant isolation, least-privilege access, data redaction, retention, and controls for personal and medical data.

• Write comprehensive design documents for complex systems and evaluate designs and code from other engineers.

• Provide mentorship to fellow engineers.

• Engage in a shared on-call rotation.

• In the initial six months, implement evaluation processes for model changes, identify regressions before customer exposure, and showcase accuracy results.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 6 years of professional experience in software engineering.

• Proven experience in architecting, delivering to external clients, and executing at least one model or prompt migration for an LLM-powered system.

• Proficiency in Python and TypeScript, including async models, strict typing, testing strategies, and performance profiling.

• Familiarity with establishing evaluation and guardrail strategies within a product domain.

• Regular hands-on use of agentic coding tools like Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, or similar.

• Experience in designing pipelines that integrate LLMs, semantic search, and classical NLP.

• Background in creating durable, event-driven systems that employ deterministic orchestration for non-deterministic model steps.

• Knowledge of compensating actions, idempotency, backpressure, and event-sourced replay mechanisms.

• Production experience with databases such as PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Neo4j, SQL Server, or Cosmos DB.

• Experience in designing and operating systems on Azure or AWS platforms.

• Proficiency in CI/CD practices and infrastructure as code methodologies.

• Practical experience with durable workflow engines like Temporal or Durable Task Scheduler.

• Authored technical design documents for systems involving multiple teams.

• Ability to communicate clearly in writing and discussions with both technical and non-technical audiences.

• Experience with React and TypeScript is preferred.

• Familiarity with LangGraph, Microsoft Agent Framework, MCP, A2A, command-line tools, and microservices is preferred.

• Experience with LangSmith, Arize, Braintrust, and OpenTelemetry-based tracing is preferred.

• Background in designing A/B tests for AI features is preferred.

• Previous exposure to insurance, claims, or automotive repair sectors is preferred.

• A video interview is mandatory.
