This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Lead Rep Data's sales tax project, which includes nexus analysis, registration, filing schedules, and ongoing compliance in all states where obligations arise.
• Oversee the relationship with the outsourced sales tax filing provider, ensuring filing accuracy prior to submission.
• Conduct research and document taxability positions for new products and expansion into additional states.
• Assist in the monthly closing process through journal entries, account reconciliations, and flux analysis.
• Serve as the second-in-command for Treasury, handling bank reconciliations, cash positioning, and daily liquidity monitoring, with complete ownership during the Treasury lead's absence.
• Help manage quarterly and annual audit requests associated with sales tax and treasury.
• Collaborate with external accountants on corporate and state income tax filings, providing necessary schedules and supporting documentation.
• Support VAT compliance and filings for relevant entities.
• Oversee intercompany transactions and reconciliations among entities.
• Assist with transfer pricing documentation and calculations in collaboration with outside advisors.
• Identify and facilitate process enhancements and automation opportunities within sales tax and cash workflows.
• Initially report directly to the CFO, with a transition to reporting to the Controller once the function is established.
• Gain exposure to a private equity-backed, multi-entity company operating across the US, UK, Austria, and South Africa.
• A minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience, including practical multi-state sales tax involvement.
• Strong month-end closing experience, encompassing reconciliations, journal entries, and flux analysis.
• Experience in treasury or cash management (bank reconciliations, cash positioning) is highly beneficial.
• Familiarity with corporate or state income tax, preferably working alongside external accountants or tax firms, is advantageous.
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA certification or progress towards CPA is a plus.
• Ability to work independently within a lean, fast-paced finance team.
• Proficient Excel skills.
• Required knowledge of Sage (ERP) and Avalara (sales tax) systems.
• Effective, organized communicator capable of explaining tax positions to individuals without a tax background.
